LANSON INITIATIVE TO TACKLE ENVIRONMENTAL REFUSE (LITTER)
Whilst campaigning for election Jacki Ellis-Martin recognised that litter was one of the main concerns of the people living in Launceston. So she is setting up a group of properly equipped volunteers who will undertake to pick up dropped litter in their own local area, engender pride in their local neighbourhood and be an asset to their community. The team will be lead by a management team with representatives from Launceston Forum, Town Council, Police, NCDC, Volunteer Bureau and some of the LITTER volunteers.
Mission Statement
L.I.T.T.E.R a volunteer group working in Launceston and the surrounding areas, dedicated to eradicating dropped rubbish, through direct action and educational interventions.
Jason Sculthorpe from Launceston Forum is leading on involving schools and the College. NCDC have provided all the litter picking equipment, The Launceston Town Council the insurance cover and the use of Town Hall.
LITTER LAUNCH 18TH SEPTEMBER 2007
Setting up this group lead to the LITTER Launch on the 18th September during Clean Cornwall Week. The day will promote awareness and educate individuals, schools and groups to what they can do to make their environment a cleaner, greener place to be.
The Launceston Town Council have donated the use of the Town Hall and various recycling and environmental organisations have been asked to have displays. The response has been very good and some of the organisation confirmed for the day are: NCDC, Town Council, Re-souce, CC Recycling, SW Water, Clean Cornwall, Real Nappy Campaign, Volunteer Bureau, Civic Society, Scrapstore, SITA and Cornwall Wildlife Trust. We hope to have at least 20 organisations on the day. |
